LIVERPOOL SUMMER SCHOOL: WITH CONSELLO

We had a fantastic four days at the first of our two PLACED Academy Studio Summer Schools!

Our Liverpool summer school, generously sponsored by Consello and hosted at the University of Liverpool, saw 53 young people aged 14-18 kick off our 2025-26 Studio programme with an intense four days of workshops.

Over the four days, we:

• Had a group of over 50 young people in the room every day

•Heard from a range of professionals in the built environment, including Lucretia Ray of The University of Liverpool School of Architecture, Matthew Giles of MGMA Architects Limited, Ed Kamal of Buttress, Lauren Meah and Beena Nouri of K2 Architects, Laura Salcedo and Jack Mulholland of Avison Young UK, Patrick Moores of Freshfield Foundation and Rob Deacon of Landsec.

•Heard from PLACED Academy Alumni Elise Ainsworth, Diya Calleechurn, Eva Bakri, Paula Malinowska, Alice Young and Jasmine Santos

•Sketched parts of the Liverpool waterfront and toured the University of Liverpool School of Architecture

•Discussed key themes, communities and collective ideas, thought about who we were designing for and why – our cohort then designed pockets of the Liverpool waterfront

•Introduced the concept of social value and how to incorporate it into design and construction

•Designed, modelled and presented waterfront projects to peers, PLACED Academy Alumni and supporting professionals!

We are incredibly proud of all our participants for getting stuck in and contributing to the design and presentation of their waterfront projects. They impressed the professionals and university staff with their creativity and ability.

Our young people also got a first-hand look at different careers in the built environment, and some are already thinking about their future career paths – at just four days in!

The programme continues in September with monthly sessions to support our cohort’s ongoing development and we can’t wait!

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making PLACED Academy possible, with their support, time and sponsorship. It’s a real team effort, and the impact is clear to see.

Thank you to the University of Liverpool for hosting us and giving the young people an insight into what higher education is like.
